Live for an Audience of One

When we are always worried about what other people think of us, we can not be what God wants us to be. When we learn to think like Jesus, we will not worry about pleasing everyone. “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Luke 16:13)Jesus had the proper focus, and He was only concerned with pleasing God. He was never manipulated by crowds or by the approval or the disapproval of anyone else. Jesus lived for an audience of one: When we have the mind of Christ, that is what we do.“I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.” (John 5:30)It would simplify our lives to live for an audience of one. If God likes what we are doing, then we know we are doing the right thing.“And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)The truth is, we can not please everybody. Even God does not please everyone! When someone prays for it to be sunny, somebody else is praying for it to rain. Somebody is praying for their team to win, and someone else wants the opposing team to win. You can not please everyone. We have to decide whose approval we will go after, God’s approval or other people’s approval. When we are always looking for validation from other people, we do not realize who we are. We do not understand what God made us to do or believe that God is always with us.Jesus never let someone else’s approval or a fear of rejection control Him. Jesus was not out to win a popularity contest. Jesus did not need other people’s opinions to validate Himself. When we have the mind of Christ, we will be so secure in our identity, our purpose, and God’s presence in our lives that we will not need to look to other people for approval. Are you going to live for what other people think or for what God thinks?“Heavenly Father, I will live for an audience of one. If You like what I am doing, then I know I am doing the right thing. I will study to show myself approved unto You. As I meditate on Your Word day and night, I will learn Your ways and then live as an example of Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
